THE IDOLM@STER Break! is a manga adaptation of iDOLM@STER. It focuses on Yuutarou Takagi, an average teen and the grandson of Junichirou Takagi, as he works as a temporary president and producer in 765 Production after his grandfather is unable to work due to work-related stress. It details his daily life as president and producer, antics and comedic mishaps around the office, and his relationship with the many idols of 765 Pro. It is also notable (and has been criticized as well) for being a heavily harem-inspired take on iDOLM@STER, as well as the fact that Ritsuko Akizuki, the Futami Twins, Makoto Kikuchi and Azusa Miura don't appear until the last volume.

LESSON 1 - An Encounter

The story opens at a 765PRO concert, where Haruka Amami, Miki Hoshii, Iori Minase, Chihaya Kisaragi, Yayoi Takatsuki and Yukiho Hagiwara are finishing a performance onstage. Yuutarou Takagi stands in the crowd of cheering fans. As he sees Haruka Amami, their eyes briefly "meet" although his best friend Ryouya claims she was looking at him. Yuutarou remarks that the concert wasn't that great, which earns him a loud encouragement from Ryouya over the fact that he was able to convince his grandfather to get them great seats. The boy sighs and admits that he doesn't get along well with his relative, and ironically said relative happens to be nearby. President Takagi of 765 Production happily greets the high schooler but quickly gets the cold shoulder. The only thing that stops Yuutarou from leaving is the fact that Takagi wants to introduce him to someone. The two go to the giant 765 office building (much to Yuutarou's displeasure), and talk about the fact that he's doing terrible in school. The conversation is interrupted when a girl slams into him while coming into the hallway.

As it would turn out, Yuutarou and his favorite idol, Haruka, have ended up on the floor in a... compromising position. Everyone in the office squeaks with displeasure as the boy jumps off of the girl. The incident is ignored and Kotori Otonashi announces the beginning of the "765 Concert Success Celebration" for all of the 765 idols. Yuutarou freaks out over meeting so many famous people, recognizing everyone (with the exception of Kotori). Haruka laughs as she walks over and tells him he had the same expression at the concert. His grandfather introduces him as the future of the company: a producer. The idols immediately decide that this was a joke and don't believe he could actually be a producer. Kotori suddenly receives a call and realizes that they have a job they have to be at in 15 minutes. The girls run everywhere and frustratedly attempt to put on their "Marching Band" costumes. Yuutarou tries to help, but instead send Yukiho running across the room. It isn't until the president steps in that order is restored.

The girls make it to the roof to shoot the commercial, exclaiming excitement over their "6th ANNIVERSARY" concert and upcoming CD. The president congratulates Kotori for her work, and Yuutarou notes the professionalism of both the staff and the idols. However the boy also catches the skirt of Haruka Amami, which is slowly coming off due to the temporary fix they made when putting on their costumes. Realizing her reputation is on the line, Yuutarou catches her skirt from falling... in the middle of the live broadcast. The broadcasts quickly ends and Haruka screams. The idol pushes him away, getting rid of both him and the only thing holding up her skirt. The costume drops and Yuutarou utters two words: "Pure white". Haruka picks up her skirt and runs away crying inside the building.

The recording ends and everyone finds the mess they made while scrambling to the recording. The girls try to clean up, but fall asleep in exhaustion while in the office. Yuutarou spends all night cleaning and makes it even cleaner than before. The idols wake up the next morning and find he is more capable than they thought. When Yuutarou wakes up, they introduce themselves and immediately leave for work. The president arrives and his grandson quickly runs to school. Takagi notes that his relative is capable.

Some time later, Yuutarou is called to the 765 office building. He rushes in to find all of the idols standing in front of a television set. It is revealed in a broadcast that President Takagi is hospitalized and 765PRO is in an enormous amount of debt. Yuutarou is also named the temporary president and producer. The idols exclaim their shock and some announce that they plan to transfer.
